Why Feed Hungry Children?

We feed children because they’re hungry. We feed children because its the right thing to do. There’s not a philosophy or religion that doesn’t encourage us to pay attention and care for those who have less than we do.

Consider the Golden Rule… in all these traditions:

  • Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
  • Do not do to others what would hurt you. (Buddhism)
  • Do not do to others what you do not want them to do to you. (Confucianism)
  • This is the sum of duty: to do nothing to others which would cause them pain. (Hinduism)
  • None of you truly believes until he wishes for his brother what he wishes for himself. (Islam)
  • A man should wander about treating all creatures as he himself would be treated. (Jainism)
  • You shall love thy neighbor as thyself. (Judaism and Christianity)
  • All things are our relatives; what we do to everything, we do to ourselves. All is really One. (Native American)
  • And it harm no one, do what thou will. (Wicca)
  • One going to take a pointed stick to pinch a baby bird should first try it on himself to feel how it hurts. (Yoruba (Nigeria))
