Love Flows began in November 2012 as a project by the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Susquehanna Valley (UUCSV) to help Staten Island recover from the devastation of Superstorm Sandy. Like the Susquehanna River that flows through our valley and empties into the ocean, Love Flows was created as a way for our love to flow from the valley to the ocean communities that were in such need. After raising close to $25,000 to contribute to the relief efforts and seeing the difference we could make in people’s lives, we knew our work had just begun.
Love Flows continues to grow. We’re committed to partnering with community organizations to provide financial support and resources to meet and expand the services they are able to provide. Like the river that flows through our valley, Love Flows has become an important life source whose more recent branches have begun to address the needs of hungry children (The LOVE Project), low income women (Love (period)), and specific needs worldwide (Love Shows).
We’re raising money in every crazy way we can think of to support all the branches of Love Flows, but the best way is by our asking you – and your asking people you know, and so on, and so on. All donations are tax deductible, and all of the money that is raised goes directly into the community and for the needs of the people we serve — the church picks up the administrative costs. There are no paid administrators of this program — just committed volunteers, hoping to make a difference wherever and however they can.
